Belt Creek Bicycle Race, Montana, May 14, 2005

Ideal weather greeted 76 racers at Saturday's Belt Creek Bicycle Race. The event opened with a five-mile time trial up Stockett Hill. The women's TT results were very close with seven racers within 30 seconds of each other, led by Becky Nelson of the Great Falls Bicycle Club. After a sponsored lunch of Subway subs and Great Harvest cookies, the racers headed to Belt for the afternoon's main event, a 42-mile road race. In the Masters 40+ category, Rich West (Great Falls) and Walt Chauner (Kalispel) broke away for a convincing 1,2 finish, with John Juras (Great Falls) sprinting home at the head of the remaining peleton. Special thanks to Bighorn Wilderness, Knicker Biker, Central Bike, Subway, and Great Harvest Bread for making the event possible.
