Revealing BIKE magazine article — HLCNF Forest Plan Update

The current BIKE magazine includes a very revealing and thought provoking article about “The Untold Story of Montana’s De-facto Wilderness Roots”.  Having had some of our favorite trails closed due to the controversial tactics described in the article, MTB riders in our region should read and understand what has happened, is still happening, and can be done about it.

Speaking of possibly closed trails, our Lewistown area favorite Big Snowys Ice Cave loop is on the list of trails threatened by the current HLCNF Plan Revision.  HUNDREDS of pro MTB access comments about this specific trail were made asking the USFS to keep this trail open to bicycles.  The latest process update says “Mechanized use (bicycling) in recommended wilderness areas was a popular theme of many comments”.   THANK YOU to everyone who commented.  We will see if our efforts did bicycle access any good when the Draft Forest Plan is issued early next year.

Stay tuned!
